Add export/import of rules and setting
Migrating from an old machine to a new machine, I have to manually set up all my rules again. It would be nice to be able to export/import rules and settings.

Add ability to open in a Firefox container tab
Firefox now allows container tabs. It'd be cool to support these tabs as options in Choosy, so when clicking a link I could open it in a Firefox "Work" tab or a "Personal" tab.
108 votesNow that version 2.0 is out, the next focus for Choosy is tighter integration with browsers. I already added Chrome Profile and Incognito support, and would love to do the same for other browsers.

extending support to various media types, not just browser
It would be nice if Choosy could support something other than a browser. Maybe mail applications, Media Players or something else.

Implement URL rewriter
It would be useful in some cases that a URL has to be rewritten based on search and replace (incl. RegExp) some strings in a URL and send it to a specific browser.
E.g.: Click on the URL http://system.xy.com will be rewritten to http://system.ab.com and then will be opened with Camino

add an option to specify behaviour based on network location
it would be useful to have different behaviours for different network location, e.g., I would:
- open in Safari when I'm at home
- open in Firefox when I'm at office #1
- etc.45 votesGreat idea. It’s on the list for a future version.

support firefox profiles best as possible
Profile support for ffox on the mac is a bit opaque, but I use it to keep a completely separate environment for e.g. online banking.
From the shell ".../Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -ProfileManager" lets you create new profiles, and then ".../Firefox.app/Contents/MacOS/firefox-bin -ProfileManager -P ProfileName" will launch firefox with a particular profile.
When you launch ffox this way, you can have multiple copies of it running at the same time. I don't really expect choosy to know what to do here automatically (prompt maybe?).
However, when you quit any ffox instance Choosy loses track of the other running ffox processes and no longer shows…
43 votesI would love to support Firefox profiles in the same was as Chrome profiles (where each profile can be treated as a distinct browser). Unfortunately, that hasn’t been possible to achieve so far.
Firefox does have command line arguments that can be used to launch a new instance of the browser for a specific profile, but once it’s running there’s no way I can find to control which profile a newly opened link will be sent to (the closest I’ve been able to get is forcing Firefox to start a another new instance for the profile, which opens the link in the right profile, but also causes the previous profile instance—and any windows or tabs it had open—to quit).
I’ll keep coming back and reviewing this—maybe it will become possible in future Firefox versions.

Add an icon at the end (optionally) that would copy the URL to the clipboard
Sometimes I would just like to copy the URL (like, when using Skitch, clicking the "Share" button tries to open the page in a browser, when I would rather just copy that URL and paste it in to an IM window.)

Make choosing browsers with shortcuts 1,2,3,4(etc)
Make choosing browsers keyboard friendly with shortcuts 1,2,3,4 (etc) default behavior and allow users to modify with their own definable keys when the modal window comes up to choose a browser. Example I could see someone using f for firefox, c or gc for chrome s for safari, and so on. Since we have to choose a browser often in the beginning anyways before we setup a ton of rules, best make it as painless as possible.

add support for recognizing different Slack teams, similarly to how you recognize different Chrome profiles
This would allow me to make rules that say things like "when I click a link in Slack team A, use Chrome profile B to open it." Right now I have it set to always prompt for every link in Slack, but I almost always choose the specific Chrome profiles for specific Slack teams (work, personal, etc).

Safari icon broken
Is it just me or is the Safari toolbar icon wonky in the 2.2.1 release? It's super tiny compared to other apps' icons. See screenshot: https://www.evernote.com/l/AASfNSW2iqxBhL9MreuwlsmX25i9FvtH-jg

Temp freezing the computer or visual bug when clicking on a link
I'd love to have this figured out to narrow it down more, but at apparently random times when I click on a link, instead of choosy showing up, the computer will freeze for ~15 seconds. Background task will continue (itunes playing music, etc.) but user input does nothing (cursor won't move, can't alt-tab, can't switch spaces, etc.)
After the ~15 seconds is up, everything goes back to normal. If I click a 2nd time at that point, choosy will mostly likely behave normally. Also, and possibly related is choosy will be visually bugged.
See screenshot:

Could those who are following this thread leave comments indicating which graphics card their Mac uses?
Thanks for your patience while I fix this.

Modifier to open in new window
Sometimes I'd like to open a link in a new browser window. If I'm inside a browser I can hold down (generally) shift when I click the link, and a new window will be opened. However, Choosy doesn't seem to expose a way to do this.
I think this can be implemented without interfering with the existing modifiers feature, by having the behavior change occur once the popup is already open. Because not all browsers would support this, it could probably be signposted by changing the label on supported-browsers to e.g. "Firefox (new window)" once the modifier is pressed.

Backup to Dropbox, Google Drive etc
Hi,
Would really love a backup to Dropbox, Google Drive etc as I'd hate to lose my rules!!!
Ash.
18 votesStoring rules in iCloud might also be a good solution for this.
In the short term, there is a file you can back up manually for your advanced rules: ~/Library/Application Support/Choosy/behaviours.plist
