Updated to El Capitan Public Beta 2. Trying to use Choosy's preference pane locks up.
I get the "click on Enable Choosy..." OK button locked so I can't enable Choosy.
Sigh...
24 votesThe popup reminding people to enable Choosy (which was buggy in El Capitan, and annoying even before El Capitan) has been removed completely in Choosy version 1.1.

Make choosy appear in system preferences
I can't launch Choosy. It doesn't appear in System Preferences, and when I launch the file in the Finder it loads System Preferences, but no sign of Choosy.
This is a bug.
22 votesThis issue is fixed in Choosy 0.9.1

Choosy crashes Chrome
Did Choosy stop supporting Chrome? Every time I tried it in the past week it crashed my Chrome browser. I tried reinstalling it and it doesn't even show up in the list of extensions (but it does for Safari and FF). My version of Chrome is 68.0.3440.84 (Official Build) (64-bit).
22 votesChoosy 2.1 and a new version of the Chrome extension just shipped.
The new Chrome extension should resolve the crashing problem with any version of Choosy, but may ask “do you want to open Choosy?” every time it’s used with older versions of Choosy.
Choosy 2.1 supports a whole new way for the Chrome extension to pass links to it, which should mean no crashing and no annoying prompt.

Marking this as complete, since the comments all say that this is possible with various different virtualisation apps.

fix bug where active window loses focus
In NetNewsWire, for example, pressing return on an article brings up Choosy. Pressing return again chooses my preferred browser, which opens the link in the background, as I have set in NetNewsWire, but then the NNW window is no longer active, so I must click the mouse to bring it back to the foreground.
20 votesChoosy had this feature for a long time, it was subsequently broken by some macOS changes, but as of version 1.3 it’s working correctly again.

Make Choosy work in High Sierra
I'm trying Choosy for the first time, but no matter which settings I use, it doesn't seem to be working. I see no behavior that's any different from not having it installed at all. Everything just opens in Safari, as usual.
Has it been tested in High Sierra?
20 votesVersion 1.3 has been extensively tested on High Sierra, and there are no major problems remaining that I know of.

Maverick Support
Seems like Choosy doesn't work with Maverick. On my iMac and MacBook Pro Choosy is enabled but not working.

Make Choosy a universal binary for Apple M1 silicon devices
I guess that's on the list for the next version anyway, but maybe it is worth considering a small update version in case the next prod version is not on the horizon anytime soon already :-)
17 votesChoosy has been a universal binary since version 2.2 (released in November 2020). Version 2.3 (released yesterday) fixed a bug where the installer package required Rosetta to run.

show the url at the bottom of the prompt.
This should allow me to have a last chance to not visit a site. This should help me to make better decisions about where to visit when clicking links in mail or similar apps which don't show where the link is going.
17 votesThis feature is included in version 0.9.2

add an option to open a link in all browsers simultaneously
If the site was already open in a particular browser it should refresh rather than opening it again.
Suggested on email by Sergei.
17 votesIn 1.0 there is a new advanced behaviour rule option that allows you to open a link in the several browsers simultaneously.

allow user to hit return to open default browser selection
When Choosy pops up I notice that I instinctively strike the return key to open Safari (the default selection), but of course nothing happens. It would be nice if it did.
16 votesThis bug was related to the mouse not being over a browser icon when the prompt appears, so no browser was getting selected. The bug fixes in version 0.9.2 should correct this issue.

Allow all apps (esp. Slack) to be considered a "source application"
For some reason, Choosy lets you pick some apps as a "source application" for rules, but ignores them. Slack is one example (and the one I find most frustrating).
You can create a rule that says "All of the following are true: Source application is "Slack.app". But even after deleting all other rules, a link clicked on inside Slack uses the default Choosy behaviour (in my case, popping up the list of browsers) instead of the rule behaviour.
I would like to be able to select Slack as a source application and have it work. Thanks!
16 votesSource application wasn’t working correctly for all applictions, but it’s now fixed in version 1.2
Note that for Slack specifically, you’ll still need to use the work around Philip wrote up in the comments (thanks, Philip).

Workaround for Safari dialog in Sierra 10.2.2?
In Sierra 10.2.2, Safari (10.0.2) systematically displays a dialog whenever I invoke "Open in Choosy" in the contextual menu:
"Do you want to allow this page to open Choosy?"
Is there any way to avoid that extra step every time?
16 votesChoosy 2.1 shipped with a new Safari App Extension, which finally solves this prompting issue.

Open a link from one browser into another browser
I find myself often copying a link from one browser to another because I want to use a plugin not available in the current browser. Would be cool if Choosy was available within a browser or on the address bar to open the link under the cursor in a browser of choice.
15 votesThis is already possible using the Choosy browser plugins for Chrome, Safari & Firefox; they add a Choosy button to the browser’s toolbar that brings up the Choosy prompt so you can send the page you’re looking at to another browser.
You’ll find all the plugins here:

Choosy in the contextual menu
so that when I right-click on a link in a browser I can choose which browser should open the link.
15 votesThis is already available in Safari, Chrome and Firefox if you install the Choosy browser plugins.

In Yosemite GM3 - unable to see/edit rules in the advanced preferences
In Yosemite GM3 - unable to see/edit rules in the advanced preferences - when you go to the advanced preferences, the rule list is empty - however, there are rules their, and they work, you just cannot add to them or edit them.
14 votesThis works under both Mavericks and El Capitan with Choosy version 1.1.

So is Choosy still alive?
I reinstalled it and it works under Snow Leopard. But still, I wonder whether there will be further versions.
Thomas
12 votesYep, very much alive. Sorry for the slow release cycle.

Fix choosy helper not starting after Mavericks upgrade
Love choosy. After upgrade to Mavericks, choosy helper no longer starts automatically even though it is checked to do so in prefs pane. Have to open system preferences->choosy and then click the "start choosy helper". Then all works. Would just love it to start up automatically again.
11 votesThis should be resolved in Choosy version 1.1.

report bug
extensions for Chrome crash my chrome everytime,
11 votesThere is a new version of the Chrome extension which resolves the crashing issue.
With older versions of Choosy the new Chrome extension may prompt “do you want to open Choosy?” each time it is used.
With Choosy 2.1 or later, both the crashing and the prompt should be resolved.
