Add support for Windows
I use Mac a lot, but it would be nice to have windows support so I could use it everywhere.
23 votesI’m not a Windows user, or a Windows developer. I wouldn’t know where to start!

Update for Yosemite?
When I try to enable Choosy in Yosemite (public beta, so I understand that it might not work yet), I get a notification from OS X asking if I want Choosy to be my default browser. I click “Continue", and the “General” tab in System Preferences.app loads, but Choosy is not enabled.
22 votesI left it far too long between updates, and the ship has kind of sailed on Yoesmite support.
The good news is that Choosy 1.1 has better compatibility with Mavericks and El Capitain.

Make the rules work with Dashboard.
Right now if you specify the app as Dashboard, it doesn't actually follow the rule. It would be nice to work with Dashboard. Or even individual widgets.
18 votesDashboard was removed in macOS Catalina, so this no longer seems relevant to future versions of Choosy.

Add eMail Choosy option - this is a bigger problem imho - Mail versus Entourage selection
Same problem exists in OS X with email. I always want to send somthing as email from "sento" in the app like word or powerpoint or preview or while priniting or just plain clicking a mailto" tag. I use "Mail" for personal email and Entourage for my work email.
I would like a similar popup of mail clients as options when ever a "send to" , "send page as", mailto tags are clicked.17 votesThere are two pages for this idea. I’m only marking it as “declined” so we don’t have multiple copies of the same idea.
The other version is here: https://choosy.uservoice.com/admin/forums/6165-general/suggestions/79461-add-support-for-mailto-links-e-g-open-mail-or-en

Update SIMBL plugin to work with Safari 4.0.3
As of the Aug.11th update to Safari, the SIMBL plugin has been disabled due to version mismatch.
17 votesSafari 5 has official extensions support, I’ve therefore built a Safari 5 extension instead of updating the SIML version.

Opening Choosy crashes System Preferences
When I try to open Choosy it crashes System Preferences. I will see Loading Choosy... for a while in the title bar and then get a message that SysPref "quit unexpectedly". I have tried 1.03 and 1.02 both with the same result. I am on 64 bit Snow Leopard, 2009 MBP.
Any ideas?
13 votesThis issue is quite old now, and I’ve never been able to reproduce it. Hopefully the newer versions (1.1 and 1.2.2) don’t do this anymore, but please let me know if you’re still having this issue.

Allow choosing shell scripts as custom browser
I want to be able to write a shell script that uses ssh to connect to another machine on my local network and issue an "open" command with the URL.
Currently, the dialog box that appears when choosing a specific browser only allows me to choose an "app".
9 votesI don’t think I’m likely to integrate this into Choosy, but there are other features for incognito and profiles that I have planned and would address some of the uses of this.
If you really want to use a script as a browser with Choosy, you can build something with Automator that Choosy will recognise: https://gist.github.com/georgebrock/9ab3d83bf160b7c1c2b0

tiger
Any chance this will be made to work in Tiger for those slightly older Macs that can't handle Leopard?
9 votesUnfortunately Tiger support isn’t really feasible anymore. Some of the features that have been added in the new version rely heavily on Leopard-only OS features which would take a huge amount of time to build for Tiger. Apologies to any Tiger users who were hoping for support, I would have liked to do it if I could have.

Choosy is not dead.
I worked on the Firefox plugin today, and the Safari and Chrome plugins yesterday.
Last week I was fixing memory leaks and graphics glitches.
New release soon.

running browser with specific flags
i'm trying to open links using Choosy in a browser with specific flags/arguments e.g. to use a specific browser profile.
unfortunately, Choosy only allows you to pick a browser .app -- it would be nice if you could enter a path to a binary and specify flags that way.to get around this limitation, i tried making a bash script wrapper bundled as an app.
this app has the following file structure (simplest possible app):
chrometest.app/Contents/MacOS/chrometest
this bash script contains the following:
!/usr/bin/env bash
capture args passed for testing purposes
echo "$@" >> /Users/synth/chrometestoutput.txt
/Applications/Google\ Chrome.app/Contents/MacOS/Google\ Chrome --incognito --profile-directory="Profile 2"
…3 votesI’m working on features for launching Google Chrome in Incognito mode, or with a specific profile. I expect those to be in the next release.
For other flags you want to pass to your browser, you can follow these instructions to create a custom app that can handle URL requests: https://gist.github.com/georgebrock/9ab3d83bf160b7c1c2b0
There are other requests on the forum for Incognito and profiles, so I’m marking this one as declined to avoid duplicates.
Thanks for the feedback!

Version 1.3 won't install.
Get dialog warning, "“Choosy.prefPane” is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash." I however was able to install and run Choosy version 1.2.2. I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 (14F2511).
3 votesChoosy 1.3 requires macOS 10.12 or later. For OS X 10.10, you’ll need to use Choosy 1.1 or earlier.

to make it work with the Brave browser
Unfortunately it’s not working well in combination with my favourite browser (which is brave: https://www.brave.com/).
Not working in terms of: Brave is not shown in the list of browsers to choose from although it’s in the list of available browsers.
3 votesI’ve installed Brave, and it works fine with Choosy for me.
Maybe there’s some set up you’re missing? Drop me an email (george@choosyosx.com) if you want more help debugging.

Choosy simply work for me
I think my issue is similar to the one where it automatically disables it. However, even when I have the prefs pane open with choosy enabled and the checkbox still there on my screen, clicking links does nothing different. One weird thing is that when I open the prefs pane, it looks like for a half second, the "enable" checkbox is unchecked, and then it automatically gets checked off.
I've made sure that Choosy is always set as my default browser. I'm not sure if there's anything else I can try. I have a bunch of advanced rules set, so…
3 votesThis seems to be a duplicate of other issues.

I want a link (in Chrome) to always open in another (Safari) browser (even if I click it in Chrome), possible with rules?
I want a link (in Chrome) to always open in another (Safari) browser (even if I click it in Chrome), is that possible with rules? I'm not talking about using Browser integration, I have that as well. I want Choosy to "intercept" that I clicked a link per rules I setup redirect the link to the other browser, without any action by me. I tried doing this with Adv Rules and "specific application" rule with Chrome selected, but it does not seem to work intra-browser (it only works in other Mac apps with URLs to a Browser). Am I wrong?
3 votesThis is a deliberate design decision; Choosy helps you get into the right browser, but once you’re there it doesn’t interfere.

Upon wake up Choosy holds NVIDIA card on new 2010 MBP
On new mid-2010 MacBook Pro, when the computer wake up from sleep, the NVIDIA CPU is left activated because of Choosy (instead of Intel HD GPU). There is something in Choosy that holds a reference to a graphic intensive task.

add Wyzo to the browser list
Wyzo is a Mozilla derivative - see http://www.wyzo.com/
3 votesYou can add any browser to the list by either dragging it into the list from the Finder, or using the “+” button at the bottom of the list.
See http://www.choosyosx.com/help/settings/browsers.html#customise for more information.

How do I get choosy out of the context menu? Maybe a link to a support page/email?
How do I get choosy out of the context menu? Maybe a link to a support page/email?
1 voteYou can uninstall the browser extension to remove Choosy from the context menu in a given browser.
How you do this varies from browser to browser. Feel free to post more details here if you need more help.

Why six years between updates?
Thinking of buying but curious/concerned why there is a six year gap between releases.
1 voteChoosy’s not my day job. Sometimes I’m able to work on it more than other times. I use Choosy myself every day, and during that hiatus it was still working fine for me.
If it helps: I have version 1.2 more or less ready to go, it should be out in the next two weeks. I’ve also started work on a significant upgrade that’ll probably be released as 2.0 sometime in the next 6 months.
