preview short URLs
URL shortening services such as TinyURL and bit.ly are frequently used in Twitter and email, but their opacity encourages a lax attitude towards secure web browsing. Choosy could optionally pop up a small window that displays the actual URL to which the shortened URL refers. The user could then choose to continue to the URL or to cancel.
See Tweetie for an example implementation.

Allow the browser selection to be Spaces aware
I'd love to be able to select my default browser based on the current space. This means i can use separate browsers in separate spaces for programming/work vs. personal/leisure.
It would be even better if I could set domains/regex patterns on a per space basis, allowing me to restrict the current space to certain domains and force me to focus on the job in hand!

Support latest version of Firefox
Installed firefox extension but it indicated it would not work on the most current version.
1 voteThe new version of the Firefox plugin is done, it’s just not been approved by Mozilla yet.
While you’re waiting you can download it from here:

show the url at the bottom of the prompt.
This should allow me to have a last chance to not visit a site. This should help me to make better decisions about where to visit when clicking links in mail or similar apps which don't show where the link is going.

fix bug where active window loses focus
In NetNewsWire, for example, pressing return on an article brings up Choosy. Pressing return again chooses my preferred browser, which opens the link in the background, as I have set in NetNewsWire, but then the NNW window is no longer active, so I must click the mouse to bring it back to the foreground.
20 votesChoosy had this feature for a long time, it was subsequently broken by some macOS changes, but as of version 1.3 it’s working correctly again.

Add a rule to disable Choosy with certain applications
I use Choosy for every link the system sees. Although this is superduper, it poses a big problem with applications like GarageSale. Therefore I would like a rule where I can say that when in application 'GarageSale', do nothing.
3 votesYou can already do this with the existing advanced behaviours: Set up a rule so that if the source application is GarageSale links are always opened in a chosen browser (e.g. Safari)
There is more information about setting up advanced rules here: http://www.choosyosx.com/help/settings/advanced.html

Choosy seems to request NVidia 330M graphics when running
Choosy seems to request that the system switch to the NVidia 330M graphics card rather than integrated graphics when running on the latest Macbook Pro.
This is detected using : http://codykrieger.com/gfxCardStatus/
The downside of this is that it can have a significant impact on battery life, especially given that it's a background/resident app.
125 votesChoosy 1.1 on Mavericks and El Capitan no longer requires the high performance graphics card.
The “Energy” tab in Activity Monitor indicates Choosy is behaving well: no requirement for the high performance graphics card, even when the browser prompt is displayed, and a very low average energy impact, even after several days of heavy use.

I’ve submitted a new version to Mozilla, it’s awaiting review. I imagine it will show up in Firefox’s auto-update in a day or two.
If you want to get it sooner you can download it manually from here:

Fix the memory leak
Choosy is currently using 427 MB. After restart below 50MB.
6 votesChoosy version 1.1 has switched to automatic reference counting for memory management, and now has a much more stable memory profile. After several days of heavy usage, I see less than 20 MB of real memory usage.

Update Choosy to be 64-bit (for better Snow Leopard compatibility)
Currently Snow Leopard System Preferences has to relaunch in 32-bit mode in order to support Choosy - it would be great to add 64-bit mode for a smoother user experience.

So is Choosy still alive?
I reinstalled it and it works under Snow Leopard. But still, I wonder whether there will be further versions.

Fix bug where Choosy is disabled on startup
Choosy is installed and working beautifully, and set as standard browser in Safari. Until I restart... Almost every time I restart (I'd say 80-90 % of the time), Choosy has disabled itself in the System Preferences and Safari has taken the position of default browser.
So the first thing I need to do when I restart the computer is to go to System Preferences, click OK in the "Choosy is disabled" dialogue box (that's a very annoying little box), and check "Enable Choosy for links" and Enable Choosy for HTML files".
This was the case in the beta versions and…
75 votesThere hasn’t been any new feedback on this issue in a long while, and with the significant changes to Choosy’s architecture in 2.0 I’m going to close this.
Feel free to open a new issue if similar problems come up in the post-2.0 world!

Choosy in the contextual menu
so that when I right-click on a link in a browser I can choose which browser should open the link.

Preserve the order of behaviour rules
I realise that behaviour rules are evaluated in the order they are listed (which makes sense). And I appear to be able to drag and drop rules into a different order. But, the order doesn't then seem to persist. Which means that some of my ChoosyFluid-inserted rules are persisting below "Always open up links from some applications in my favourite browser" and I want the Fluid ones to take precedence.
I'm off to see if I can tweak the configuration directly to make it persist, but I'm wondering if there's a buglet whereby order changes aren't being automatically saved?

George Brocklehurst's weblog has updates as recently as September 4 so it would seem he's not in the hospital. He doesn't seem like a deadbeat.... what's the deal?

Possibly memory leak?
I purchased Choosy yesterday, and it's been running since. However, I nearly fell off my chair when I switched to Task Manager, and see that Choosy is at the top of the list with 515MB Real Memory used.. That's about 100MB more than FireFox with 28 tabs open!
Are you aware of any memory problems?
