Create behavior and rule "profiles"
It would be great to be able to set up "profiles" which are sets of behaviors & advanced rules, then be able to toggle between them in the Menu Bar (or even snazzier, have your auto-detected location change them a la MarcoPolo (http://www.symonds.id.au/marcopolo/).

Fix spawning of windows from Fluid
I am using Choosy at work, where I use Firefox for work stuff, Safari for personal stuff, and Fluid for Gmail. I have Choosy set to launch links from Entourage in Firefox and links from the Fluid/Gmail application in Safari. Works great -- except that it's spawning an extra window when I click on a link in Fluid. Can you fix?

Choosy disabled itself before it was due to expire.
I am running Choosy 0.9.2. In System Preferences, it says in red, "Choosy is not registered, you may use it for another 273 days." However, it has now disabled itself. I noticed earlier that in the menubar there were two Choosy menus, 0.9.2 (old icon) and 0.9.3 (triangle icon). Now there is only the 0.9.2 menu. Choosy 0.9.2 has asked in the past to upgrade to 0.9.3, and it told me then that if I did so, my trial period would be set to 90 days. That was less than 90 days ago, and I do not remember even downloading…

The automated update shouldn’t install a new version without asking, and when it does it should replace the old version so there are a number of issues here.
Could you email me and I can get some more details from you?

Add an option to remember your selection
Like if you visit a domain semi frequently, but not enough that you want to create a new rule, have a setting so it will automatically create the rule if you want it to.

0.93 does not stay enabled
Installed 0.93 over previous version. Each time I click on the pref pane, it tells me Choosy is not enabled. I tick all four boxes in the "enable Choosy" section, click "Start helper now" and press Cmd-Q.
On going back to the pref pane, I am warned about Choosy not being enabled AGAIN. All four boxes are unticked and the helper is shown as not running. (BTW, the first click on Choosy changes the title bar to "Loading Choosy" but the pane does not appear — I have to click it again to get this far)
This happens even if I…

allow reordering of browsers in priority list by drag & drop
I'm sure this used to work, but it's broken in 0.93: dragging a browser entry just results in it flying back into place. Expected behaviour: the list is reordered.

add OS X Applications to what Choosy can let you "Choose"
Choosy is such a godsend for keeping ME in control of what browser launches what file/link!
After wrestiling with OSX today to stop it from launching an app for a filetype of which I prefer another application to launch by default instead, I found myself thinking "damn, I wish there was a version of Choosy that worked with Application launching".
Yes, I know you can right-click on a flie and tell it to open with another app (or option click and set it as a default), but Finder context menus can be VERY sluggish, depending on what other Finder extensions…

Opening files from hard drive fails
With Choosy 0.9.1 beta there seems to be a problem when you try to open files (I tried with an HTML page) on your hard drive. Opening links (e.g. from Mail) works as expected but a file does not. Here is the console output (when Choosy starts):
10/02/09 21:01:40 Choosy[514] Failed to get an int preference for runningMode (value was (null))
10/02/09 21:01:40 Choosy[514] Failed to get an int preference for generalMode (value was (null))
10/02/09 21:01:40 Choosy[514] Failed to get an int preference for displayMode (value was (null))
10/02/09 21:01:40 Choosy[514] Failed to get an int preference for iconSize…11 votesAdmingeorgebrock (Admin, Choosy) respondedThere are several improvements to this in the 0.9.3 release:
1) Choosy properly registers itself with the OS as a viewer app for HTML files
2) There are separate settings for using Choosy as the default app for HTML files and the default app for HTTP URLs
3) The advanced behaviour rules system allows you to set up specific rules for local files (e.g. I have them set to open in TextMate by default but if I hold shift while opening the file I get a TextMate/Firefox/Validator prompt)I’m hoping updates should solve the problems you’ve been having, let me know in the comments if there are any more issues. If not I’ll close this issue.
There was another issue that’s just been fixed: There was a problem opening local files that had special characters (e.g. spaces) in the file names.

option to lock to a specific browser from the menu bar
Ability to lock the browser choice to a particular browser selected in the menu item's menu, until disabled again. Choosy won't be shown when opening URLs, but the browser selected when locking is automatically chosen.

choose a browser automatically based last one used.
When you click on a link Choosy deermines which of it's browsers was last the front application and selects that one without user's further input.

extending support to various media types, not just browser
It would be nice if Choosy could support something other than a browser. Maybe mail applications, Media Players or something else.

search google in not just Safari
I'd love to have the option to search google in whatever browser is currently running. For some reason, searching Google from a cocoa-app always opens Safari, which isn't always the best choice.

add an option to specify behaviour based on network location
it would be useful to have different behaviours for different network location, e.g., I would:
- open in Safari when I'm at home
- open in Firefox when I'm at office #1
- etc.48 votesGreat idea. It’s on the list for a future version.
